How will you know if you are using a 32-bit or 64-bit PC? What are the differences between the two? I'm sure most Windows PC users didn't even know about it.
Have you ever experienced trying to download a software that requires you to choose between 32-bit and 64-bit and you didn't know what to choose because you have no idea about the system type of your computer? That is one of the reasons why you should know about it.
To know what is the system type of your computer, right click on My Computer icon (usually found on your desktop) and click properties. A window will appear similar to the below screenshot.
1. 64-bit version of Windows can use more memory up to 4 GB or more rather than a PC with a 32-bit which is limited to about 3.5 GB or less. Even if your PC comes with 6GB of memory installed, a 32bit version can only use up to 3.5GB of that memory.
2. Since 64-bit can use more memory you can keep more programs open simultaneously without slowing down your computer.
3. The 64-bit version of Windows 7 Ultimate, Enterprise, and Professional editions can all use up to 192 GB of memory. Imagine what else can you do with that huge amount of memory on your PC :)
4. Having a 64-bit version of Windows that can use more memory available can make your computer more responsive if you like to keep everything running at once and rarely close anything.
